5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Hitting Publish

  • Does it have a strong opinion?

  • Does the formatting make it look digestible?

  • Is there an element of credibility?

  • Is it a topic that people care about?

  • Is my "hook clear"?

Let's dive in.

1. Does it have a strong opinion?

The internet rewards conviction.

No one likes indifference.

Content that gets massive engagement takes a stance.

Remember: if you try and be liked by everyone, you will be liked by no one.

2. Does the formatting make it look digestible.

Formatting is the easiest way to 10x your writing.

Our goal should be to eliminate any friction in our writing for the reader.

And we can do that make making our content looks digestible, skimmable, easy on the eyes, etc.

For example, would you rather read something with big blocks of text or something that looks visually pleasing?

Don’t scare off your reader by making things look hard to read.

3. Is there an element of credibility?

The three types of credibility:

  1. You are the expert

  2. You curated the insights from experts

  3. Your personal experience

You want the reader to understand why they should listen to you.

The beauty of credibility is that you don’t have to be a NYT best seller or Forbes 30 under 30.

Let’s go through a couple of examples:

  1. You are the expert. “I’ve helped 369 sales organization with their go-to-market strategy. Here are the mistakes 99% of them make”

  2. You curate insights from the experts. “I went and found the top 10 copywriting experts. Here’s what they had to say about copywriting”.

  3. Your personal experience. “I watched 300 hours of YouTube on the topic of space exploration. Here’s what I think about the future of space travel.”

Credibility comes in handy when you are just getting started in your digital branding journey.

4. Is it a topic that people care about?

People care about animals, food, status, and how to solve their own problems.

People don’t care about what you had for breakfast.

Nothing more to say here!

5. Is my “hook” clear?

If you’re hook isn’t clear, the rest of your posts does not matter.

People will keep scrolling.

Your hook is the first domino that falls.

And...

If it doesn’t fall, the rest of the dominos won’t either.

Your hook should answer the following 3 questions:

  1. WHAT is this about?

  2. WHO is this for?

  3. WHY should people read it? (i.e. the benefits)

And if your hook doesn’t answer these 3 questions, your reader will keep on keepin’ on.

Remember:

Clear > Clever.
