💀 The internet’s DEADLIEST newsletter: Biz, Building, and Lols by Andrew

"#1 Newsletter of the Year" 🏆️ -Andy’s Wife

Good afternoon to everyone who says ohhhhhhhhh when they still don’t understand 😯

😱 ANDY REACTS

Did you hear about the latest breakthrough in birth control research? Yes, you heard that right, a birth control pill for men! Who knew we were capable of taking pills other than ibuprofen for a hangover?

But before we get too excited, let's take a moment to reflect on the last few decades of birth control research. It seems like every few years, there's a new method that promises to be the ultimate solution to unwanted pregnancy. We've had condoms, diaphragms, IUDs, the pill, the patch, the shot, and even the "pull and pray" method. And yet, here we are, still waiting for a foolproof option.

Now, I'm not trying to be cynical, but as someone who's been following birth control research for a while, I can't help but be a little skeptical. I mean, we've been waiting for male birth control for what feels like forever. And to make things worse, they announce this news yesterday on Valentine's Day, when half the population is already feeling a little under pressure to perform. I can just imagine the conversation between couples now, "Honey, did you take your pill?" "Uh, which one?"

But all jokes aside, let's hope that this new birth control pill for men truly does yield promising results in the lab, and that it becomes a viable option for those seeking contraceptive solutions. Because at the end of the day, we can all agree that we need all the help we can get in preventing unwanted pregnancies.

9 not-so-always-simple ways of marketing your product:

In 2016, the startup I was at had $500,000 in ARR.

7 years later:

• $250M+ in revenue

• 1,100+ employees

• 8,000+ customers

Here are the 9 not-so-always-simple ways of marketing your product:

Quick Note:

Marketing is still all about getting the word out.

The playbook will always vary depending on:

• The product

• The maturity of the brand

• The space

• The skills of the marketer

However, marketing activities generally fall into the same buckets.

The 9 ways to get the word out are:

Content marketing

Paid ads

Outbound sales

PR

Referrals

Word-of-mouth

Community

Partners

Events

Let's dive into each one:

1. Content Marketing

This is probably the most common and well-known form of marketing, especially for SaaS products.

• blog posts

• ebooks

• webinars

• infographics

One thing to keep in mind with content marketing is that it's not a one-and-done deal.

Input = output

2. Paid Ads

Paid ads are a great way to reach a wider audience and get your product in front of people who might not otherwise find you.

• Google Ads

•LinkedIn Ads

• Facebook Ads

The key to success with paid ads is to start small and test different options.

3. Outbound Sales

Outbound sales are all about reaching out to potential customers, rather than waiting for them to come to you.

• cold emailing

• cold calling

• sending gifts

Have a laser-focused list of target customers and personalize your message for each one

4. PR

PR is all about getting your product featured in publications that your target customers are reading.

• news releases

• media relations

• influencer marketing.

Not as a fan of this though as you don't own your own distribution.

5. Referrals

Referrals are a great way to get new customers. they can come from

• current customers

• partners

• industry experts.

The key to success with referrals is to make it easy for people to refer you.

6. Word-of-Mouth

Word-of-mouth is one of the most powerful marketing tools there is.

It's basically when people talk about your product to their friends, family, or colleagues.

The key to success with word-of-mouth is to provide an exceptional product and customer experience

7. Community

Community is all about building a group of passionate users who love your product and are willing to talk about it.

This can be done through a variety of methods:

•online forums

• social media groups

• in-person events.

8. Partners

Partnerships are a great way to reach new customers and to get your product in front of a new audience.

• joint marketing initiatives

• co-branded content

• bundling your product with another product

Find the right partners who share your values.

9. Events

Events are a great way to generate interest in your product and build relationships with potential customers.

This can be done through a variety of methods:

• trade shows

• webinars

• even in-person events.

Let's recap:

• Content marketing

• Paid ads

• Outbound sales

• PR

• Referrals

• Word-of-mouth

• Community

• Partners

• Events

And the best part?

all of these work.

You just have to invest the time and use patience.
